One of the activities required me to create an “H” with three rectangles. Here are some of the things I learned from the tutorial: Processing Rectangles Welpman’s class inspired me to try the tutorial myself.
Learning Javascript with Khan Academy (The Hour of Code) Welpman‘s 3rd grade class who decided to learn Javascript! I was amazed to see the high student engagement during the activity, and how willing the students were in fixing the “bugs” in their code. Every grade level at our school participated in this event, even preschool! The one class that impressed me the most was Mrs. To celebrate this week, organized the Hour of Code, a chance for all students learn basic computer science for an hour to help them understand basic coding concepts. Navy Rear Admiral (Google showcased an awesome Google Doodle of Grace Hopper to commemorate her birthday.). 9th was chosen as the start of this special week to recognize the birthday of Grace Hopper, a programming pioneer and a U.S. 9th-15th 2013 was Computer Science Education Week. However it took a very long time, and if just one mistake was made it would be nearly impossible to find it, since all the programs were just thousands of ones and zeroes.Dec. People used to do programming only with machine language. The electric current can flow through all the gates that are on and whatever path the current takes makes it do something on the computer (ie make the screen light up a certain way, add some numbers, or send a message) The ones and zeros specify if certain “gates” in the hardware of the computer are either on or off. It basically looks like a bunch of ones and zeroes. When you run the code, what is actually happening is that the words you type are converted into binary code (also called machine language). However computers can’t understand words and number that are used in programming. So, computer programmers give the computer instructions on how to do that in their programs.
People have to program it to respond to user interaction with a mouse and keyboard, show different things on the screen, and access the internet. Without being programmed, a computer would be useless. Programming is how you tell computers to do things.
